CNA Certification

If you are looking to start a rewarding career in the health care industry, a good place to start is to get your CNA certification. Your CNA certification will allow you to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and open the door for you to move on to become a RN (registered nurse) or even a Doctor.

While certified nursing assistants are generally a little bit lower on the totem pole than registered nurses, it doesn't make their jobs any less important. While the tasks of a certified nursing assistant may not always be glamorous, they are still necessary in the grand scheme of things.

Now, it is true that there are many people out there that do the exact same work as a certified nurses assistant, and do not have the CNA certification. These nursing assistants are known as orderlies, and are at a disadvantage when it comes to promotions and workplace advancements because they do not have a CNA certification. Without a CNA certification they may be stuck in the same position for their entire careers.

Getting a CNA certification, can really open up doors for you when it comes to job advancement opportunities, and it can also help you bring home a higher salary when you apply for work in nursing homes and hospitals.

Getting a CNA certification is a snap. Almost every community college or nursing school in your area will have a certified nursing assistant course. You can expect the course itself to last anywhere from a month to six months, depending on what state you are in, and have a cost of between $800 and $2000. However, if you are not able to pay such an amount, there are also free alternatives available to you as well. Once you have completed the course, you will also be required to pay anywhere from $300 to $600 for the actual certification itself.

There is one other step to complete before you can actually get your CNA certification. You will be required to pass two different exams: The Clinical Exam and the Theoretical Exam:

The Clinical Exam:

Let's take a look at the clinical exam first. You may need to bring along a volunteer, so that you can properly demonstrate the bedside manner, techniques, and medical testing procedures you have picked up during your certified nursing assistant training sessions.

During the exam, you will be asked to perform a variety of tasks, which will test between 2 to 5 training skills you picked up while studying.

The Theoretical Exam:

Now, this may sound sinister, but there is nothing new or scary about the theoretical exam. Think back to high school, and the final exams you needed to write to pass. Same idea. You can even look online and hop over to the exam center in your area, to help you prepare for this exam. You will be able to find sample questions and even past exams, so this test will be a breeze to get through, as long as you study.
